Elbows introduce additional stress and uneven load distribution, so extra supports are required. The general approach is:

  1. Determine the straight section support spacing based on cable weight and tray type.
  2. Calculate the load per foot: Load per Support = Cable Load per Foot × Distance Between Supports .
  3. Apply a correction factor for the elbow: Typically, add one extra support for each 90° bend or reduce the spacing by 25–50% near the elbow to account for bending stress .
  4. Check deflection limits: Ensure the tray does not exceed allowable deflection under the combined weight of cables and tray hardware. This may require additional intermediate supports.
