Step-by-Step Sealing Process

  2. Remove cover plates: Unscrew and set aside all outlet or switch covers.
  3. Clean surfaces: Remove dust, debris, or old sealants to ensure proper adhesion.
  4. Seal wire entry points: Apply electrical putty around wires entering the box.
  5. Seal box perimeter: Apply a continuous bead of fire-rated caulk around the box where it meets the drywall. Smooth with a caulk tool or wet finger.
  6. Fill larger gaps: For deep voids, use minimal-expansion, fire-rated spray foam inside the wall cavity around the box.

  8. Replace cover plates: Reattach covers once the sealant has cured.
