Grounding and Safety

Proper grounding is essential for both system stability and personnel safety. System grounding connects the neutral conductor to earth, stabilizing voltages and ensuring protective devices operate correctly during faults. Equipment grounding connects all metal enclosures, motor frames, and conduits to the grounding system, preventing exposed metal surfaces from becoming live. Copper conductors are preferred, and ground resistance should ideally be 5 ohms or less, tested at installation and annually thereafter ( ).

After stepping down voltage via a transformer, power is fed into the main distribution panel (or Motor Control Centre).   4. Control Wiring: Connect push buttons, indicators, and auxiliary contacts for motor start/stop and status signals ( ).
  5. Interlocking: Ensure downstream equipment is interlocked to prevent motors from starting if conveyors or other machines are not energized ( ).
  6. Testing: Perform final testing for ON/OFF operation, tripping, and safety signals before commissioning ( ).

  • Use proper insulation and conduit for all wiring.
