These busbars are designed to carry high currents with minimal voltage drop and are commonly used in outdoor primary substations up to 132 kV and in industrial power distribution systems . Tubular construction provides mechanical strength, reduces skin and proximity effects, and allows for efficient heat dissipation .

Materials and Ratings

  • Aluminum Tubes: Preferred for new installations due to lightweight, corrosion resistance, and cost-effectiveness. Continuous current ratings typically include 1250 A or 2000 A .
  • Copper Tubes: Used for extensions to existing copper busbar systems or where higher conductivity is required. Copper offers superior electrical performance but is heavier and more expensive .
  • Fittings: Tubular busbars use current-carrying half clamps for sliding and fixed connections, ensuring secure mechanical and electrical contact while minimizing deformation .

Design and Installation
