Ceramic Plate Preparation

The process begins with a ceramic substrate, typically a high-purity oxide or non-oxide ceramic, which provides mechanical stability and thermal resistance. For fiber optic applications, the ceramic must maintain dimensional stability and resist thermal and chemical stresses during operation.

Sintering and Fiber Integration

The ceramic plate with the printed and plated pattern undergoes high-temperature sintering, which densifies the ceramic and fuses the glass and metal powders into a robust structure . For fiber optic applications, ceramic fuses may be integrated with ceramic ferrules or alignment sleeves, which are manufactured using Cold Isostatic Pressing (CIP) or Ceramic Injection Molding (CIM), followed by precision sintering and machining to achieve tight tolerances .

Coating and Surface Finishing

Optional coatings may be applied to enhance corrosion resistance or improve the fiber-matrix interface. Wet-chemical coatings such as silicon carbide, silicon nitride, or zirconium oxide can be applied to ceramic fibers or fuse surfaces to protect against environmental degradation and mechanical wear . Surface finishing techniques like lapping and honing ensure smooth surfaces for optimal optical alignment and minimal signal loss in fiber optic assemblies .

Quality Control

Throughout the process, precision inspection is performed using high-resolution measurement systems to verify dimensions, surface quality, and electrical characteristics. This ensures that the final ceramic fuse meets stringent standards for durability, accuracy, and adhesion, which are critical for fiber optic and high-power applications .
