Fiber Optic Sensor Preset Values

Fiber optic sensor values are set by calibrating sensitivity, adjusting detection thresholds, selecting power modes, and configuring output signals according to the target and environment.

Step 1: Power and Connection

  • Connect the sensor to a DC 24V power supply (brown wire to +24V, blue wire to 0V) and connect the signal wire to the control system or relay 0V .
  • Insert the fiber unit into the sensor's transmitter (T) and receiver (R) ports, securing it with the fiber lock lever .

Step 2: Initial Calibration

  • Place the target object at the farthest detection point. The sensor LED should display the received light intensity as 0. Press the SET button to record this baseline .
  • Move the object closer to the transmitter until the LED shows the desired intensity (e.g., double the baseline). Press SET again to allow the sensor to calculate the trigger light intensity automatically .

Step 3: Sensitivity Adjustment

  • Use the △ and ▽ buttons or manual adjustment to fine-tune the detection threshold .
  • For Keyence FS-V31 or FS-N11CN, you can select percentage calibration mode to set a specific threshold (e.g., 15% of light intensity) using the MODE and manual buttons .
  • Some sensors support full auto calibration or dynamic sensitivity correction (DSC) to adapt to changing conditions .

Step 4: Power Mode Selection

  • Choose a power mode based on detection requirements:
    • FINE: Detects small differences at short distances
    • TURBO: Extends detection range if FINE is insufficient
    • SUPER/ULTRA/MEGA: For harsh environments like dust or vibration
  • Enter power mode by pressing MODE for a few seconds and selecting the desired option .

Step 5: Output Signal Configuration

  • Select DARK-ON or LIGHT-ON mode depending on whether the output should activate when the object blocks or reflects light .
  • Some sensors allow external input calibration, where an external signal can trigger sensitivity and scaling adjustments up to 1 million times .

Step 6: Optional Functions

  • Zero-shift function: Sets the current light intensity to zero for reference, useful when background light is present .
  • Display scaling: Adjusts the received light intensity to a target value for consistent readings .
  • Preset function: Automatically sets reference points for detection without stopping line operation .

Step 7: Verification

  • Test the sensor by moving the target through the detection range. Ensure the LED or display indicates correct detection and the output signal triggers as expected .
  • Adjust sensitivity or power mode if detection is inconsistent or affected by environmental factors. By following these steps, you can accurately set the values of a fiber optic sensor for reliable detection in your specific application.
