Single-mode optical fiber cable chromatographic arrangement order

Single-mode optical fibers follow the TIA/EIA-598-C standard color sequence for identification, with a 12-fiber repeating pattern: Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate (Gray), White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose (Pink), Aqua (Light Blue).

Standard Color Arrangement

For single-mode optical fiber cables, each fiber is color-coded to ensure easy identification during installation, splicing, and maintenance. The TIA/EIA-598-C standard defines the sequence for a 12-fiber system, which repeats for cables with higher fiber counts :

  1. Blue
  2. Orange
  3. Green
  4. Brown
  5. Slate (Gray)
  6. White
  7. Red
  8. Black
  9. Yellow
  10. Violet
  11. Rose (Pink)
  12. Aqua (Light Blue) For cables containing more than 12 fibers, the color sequence repeats in bundles of 12 fibers, often organized into tubes or groups. Each tube or group may also have a distinct tube color to facilitate identification in loose-tube designs.

Application in Cable Types

  • Loose-Tube Cables: Multiple tubes, each containing a set of fibers, follow the 12-fiber color code internally. The tubes themselves are color-coded for easy identification in outdoor or long-distance installations .
  • Ribbon Cables: Fibers are arranged in flat ribbons, with each fiber following the same 12-color sequence. Multiple ribbons are stacked or bundled, and ribbon groups may be identified by additional color coding or numbering.

Importance

This standardized arrangement ensures that technicians can quickly locate and distinguish fibers, reducing errors during splicing, testing, or repairs. It also aligns with international standards, making single-mode fiber installations consistent across different manufacturers and systems . By following this color-coded chromatographic order, single-mode optical fiber networks maintain reliability, traceability, and ease of maintenance.
