Overview

An LC-to-MT interface is used to bridge multi-fiber MTP/MPO cables with single- or duplex-fiber LC connections. LC connectors are small form factor (1.25mm ferrule) connectors widely used in modern SFP/SFP+ modules, while MT/MTP connectors are multi-fiber connectors designed for high-density cabling in data centers and backbone networks .

How It Works

  • MTP/MPO Side (MT): Typically terminates a trunk cable carrying 12, 24, or more fibers. It is designed for high-density patching and structured cabling.
  • LC Side: Connects to individual devices, switches, or transceivers using LC duplex jumpers.
  • Module/Adapter: A low-loss module or cassette converts the multi-fiber MT interface into multiple LC ports. For example, Corning EDGE™ modules provide VFL-compatible LC shuttered adapters on the LC side and an MTP connector on the trunk side, ensuring precise alignment and minimal insertion loss .
